Need of FSSAI License for Food Tech Startups


The Food Safety & Standard Authority of India is an autonomous authority that protects the public health by issuing Licenses to businesses/brands/products that meet FSSAI's minimal standards. It was founded on September 5, 2008, with headquarters in New Delhi. In addition, it has regional offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Guwahati, and Cochin, as well as headquarters in New Delhi. FSSAI's administrative ministry is the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The FSSAI License is a 14-digit number that is printed on the food packaging.


The following are the primary goals of the FSSAI:


  • To establish food quality standards based on scientific evidence.

  • To govern food production, storage, distribution, sale, and import.

  • In order to improve food safety.

Types of FSSAI Licenses

The three different types of FSSAI Licenses are-

Basic FSSAI License

It is for sales of less than Rs. 12 lakh. The following documents are necessary for this:


  • A passport-sized image of the individual running the firm.

  • Ration cards, voter id cards, PAN cards, driving Licenses, passports, Aadhaar cards, senior citizen cards, and Department issued id are examples of identification verification documents.

  • Supporting Documents (if any) - NOC from the municipality/panchayat/health NOC.

State FSSAI License

It is for a revenue range of 12 lakhs to 20 crores. The following documents are necessary for this:


  • Government authority issues address evidence and photo ID.

  • Form B must be completed and signed by the authorised person.

  • A blueprint plan for the processing unit is required.

  • Water analysis report to be utilised as an ingredient.

  • A partnership deed/affidavit/MoA/AoA.

  • The manufacturer's No Objection Certificate (NOC).

  • Upload a snapshot of the production unit.

  • Municipal approval is required.

Central FSSAI License

It is for companies with a turnover of more than 20 crores. The following documents are necessary for this:


  • Proprietor/Partner/Director(s)/Authorized Signatory photo and address proof provided by government authorities.

  • List of Directors, with full addresses and contact information.

  • The dimensions of the operational unit must be specified for the processing unit.

  • It is also necessary to provide a list of equipment and machinery and their quantity and installed capacity.

  • Manufacturers should include a list of food categories that they wish to make.

  • Water analysis report to be utilised in food.

  • Proof of possession is essential (Electricity bill, sale deed etc.).

  • A Partnership Deed / Affidavit / AoA / MoA, etc., should be supplied.

  • Manufacturers must provide a No Objection Certificate to re-labellers or re-packers.

  • NOCs issued by the municipality or a local entity.

FSSAI License for Food tech Startup

Food-tech startups with annual revenue of more than Rs 12 lakhs are required to secure the fssai License in addition to the standard FSSAI Registration.


You have the option of applying for Licenses based on your annual revenue.


  • If the yearly business revenue does not exceed 12 lakhs, fill out Form A to apply for basic fssai registration.


  • If a company's yearly revenue exceeds Rs. 12 lakhs but does not exceed Rs. 20 crores, fill out Form B to apply for a state license.


  • If your yearly business revenue exceeds Rs. 20 crores, fill out Form B to apply for a government License.

Conclusion

Section 31 of the FSSAI, 2006 defines the punishment charged upon any person in the food business or food business operator, save those exempted under the FSSAI Act, as imprisonment for up to six months and a fine of up to five lakh rupees.
