GST stands for Goods and Services Tax, which is a tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. GST has replaced multiple indirect taxes such as central excise, service tax, value-added tax (VAT), etc. The GST registration process is mandatory for businesses that have an annual turnover of more than Rs. 20 lakhs (or Rs. 10 lakhs for businesses in special category states).

Here is a step-by-step guide for GST registration in India:

Step 1: Visit the GST portal

Visit the official GST portal  Click on the ‘Services’ tab and select ‘Registration’ from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Choose the ‘New Registration’ option

Click on the ‘New Registration’ option to begin the registration process.

Step 3: Enter the necessary details

Enter your business details such as name, PAN number, email ID, and mobile number. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number and email ID. Enter the OTP to verify your details.

Step 4: Complete the application form

After verifying your details, you will be redirected to the application form. Fill in the required details such as the nature of your business, address, bank account details, etc.

Step 5: Upload documents

Upload the necessary documents such as PAN card, proof of address, bank statement, and photographs.

Step 6: Submit the application

Review your application and submit it. You will receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) on your registered mobile number and email ID.

Step 7: Verification

Your application will be verified by the government GST officer. If any additional information is required then you will be notified.

Step 8: Approval

Once your application is approved, you will receive a GST registration certificate on your registered email ID.
